Aboriginal business owners and entrepreneurs will have a new collective voice, with the Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce – Kinaway – in early 2010.

Kinaway – a Gunnai language word meaning “exchange” – will operate as part of the Victorian Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) following collaboration between the State Government Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD) and the Aboriginal community, and will seek to represent issues of concern to Aboriginal business owners and employers with government.

This is the first state-based Aboriginal chamber of commerce to be established in Australia, and being established as part of VECCI will provide stronger links and collaboration between Aboriginal businesses and other businesses, as well as the broader benefits of association.
