Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence - 30 October 2009

On Friday 30 October, HMAA Victoria along with major sponsor Holmesglen, and partners Blue Star Print, Grow Me the Money, Mitchelton and VECCI, presented the winners of the 2009 Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence.

In a Derby Day eve themed black-tie event at the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens, 3AW’s Mr David Mann presented eleven awards across a range of categories, taking in everything from tourist and caravan parks to deluxe accommodation. Awards for individual contributions in areas such as housekeeping and management were also presented.

The Award winners were decided by a combination of judge’s feedback on their written submissions and scores from secret shoppers, which considered customer service, cleanliness and facilities.

“The Awards recognise the outstanding contribution made to the accommodation sector by individuals and businesses, who work hard to achieve a level of excellence for their guests,” says HMAA (VIC) Chairman, Mr Steve Finlayson.

“The competition among the entrants was strong, demonstrating the quality and depth of accommodation Victoria has to offer domestic and international guests.

“On behalf of the HMAA Board I would like to thank all the entrants to the Awards, and congratulate the winners for their achievements,” says Mr Finlayson.

Along with the presentation of the awards, the evening also featured a presentation by Mr Paul Bird, Victorian State Director for Mission Australia on the Charcoal Lane project, a social enterprise program of Mission Australia.

The program, in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, provides the opportunity for Aboriginal and disadvantaged young people to transform their lives through traineeships and apprenticeships within the Charcoal Lane restaurant. Donations were taken throughout the night to support the worthy cause.
