2009 Great Australian Run
VECCI would like to congratulate everyone who participated in the 2009 Great Australian Run on 29 November 2009.
More than 3,000 Melburnians braved the 15km course, which started at Albert Park on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Participants enjoyed the unique opportunity to run, jog and walk alongside elite athletes and raise money for a wealth of wonderful charities.
VECCI sponsored the 2009 event as official partner of the Great Australian Run Corporate Challenge – a new addition to the day. The first placed Corporate Challenge teams were:
- Small business: Harris HMC (Team 2)
- Medium business: Mount Lilydale Mercy College (Team 1)
- Large business: HBA (Team 3)
VECCI’s very own Corporate Challenge team, made up of twenty dedicated staff, put in a sterling effort and raised money for our chosen charity The Smith Family.
The overall Great Australian Run winner was Austrian Guenther Weidlinger, who upstaged Olympic champions to take out the number one spot. Australian Nikki Chapple took home the women's trophy in front of the home crowd.
The event was a huge success and VECCI would like to thank everyone who took part. We look forward to seeing you at Albert Park again next year.
