Why we developed this program

The changing workplace has led to the development of a significantly different role for Managers and their teams. There is a move away from the traditional skills of the supervisor controlling, directing and maintaining discipline, to the team leader being responsible for coaching, facilitating and developing team cooperation within a strategic framework.

The Diploma of Management program provides the core leadership competencies required by contemporary managers. It is particularly appropriate for those with operational or technical backgrounds who now find they are managing others. It can also be an excellent induction module for newly promoted staff, as well as a valuable resource for the more experienced manager.

Blending theory with practice, this program focuses on workplace learning to ensure its relevance to your particular situation and business.

Pathways into the qualification

Participants may enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at diploma level, including:

• After achieving the BSB40807 Certificate IV in Frontline Management or other relevant qualification/s; OR 
• With vocational experience but without formal supervision or management qualification.

Completing the program will enable participants to:

• Understand the role of a manager and be more effective team leaders
• Contribute proactively and innovatively to the business
• Be effective planners consistently reaching goals
• Develop an effective team-oriented environment
• Achieve greater profits and strategic outcomes

Study Options

• 1 day per fortnight over 16 weeks
• Night Classes over 16 weeks (6.00-9.15pm)
• Every second Saturday over 16 weeks

Assessment

For the successful completion of this qualification, participants must complete a series of workplace-based assessment tasks and a workplace project.  Assessment tasks can be completed and submitted within six months of completion of each workshop.  This program requires participants to undertake extensive self-directed learning in order to successfully complete the course.  Participants should allow a minimum of 5-6 hours per week to complete the self-directed learning and assessment tasks.

Eligibility for a Government Subsidised Place

To be eligible for a Government subsidised place, applicants must be:

• An Australian citizen or holder of a permanent visa; or a holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444); or East Timorese asylum seeker; or a holder of a Temporary Protection Visa*; AND
• Aged under 20 years of age on 1 January in the year of course commencement; OR
• Aged 20 years or over on 1 January in the year the course commences, and you do not hold a prior qualification at the Diploma level or higher.  

*Asylum Seekers (as confirmed by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre ) and Victims of Human Trafficking (as confirmed by the Australian Red Cross) are exempt from the citizenship/residency criteria listed above.
