Why we developed this program

The changing workplace has led to the development of a significantly different role for Managers and their teams. There is a move away from the traditional skills of the supervisor controlling, directing and maintaining discipline, to the team leader being responsible for coaching, facilitating and developing team cooperation within a strategic framework

The Diploma of Management program provides the core leadership competencies required by contemporary managers. It is particularly appropriate for those with operational or technical backgrounds who now find they are managing others. It can also be an excellent induction module for newly promoted staff, as well as a valuable resource for the more experienced manager

Blending theory with practice, this program focuses on workplace learning to ensure its relevance to your particular situation and business.

Completing the program will enable participants to:

Study Options

• 1 day per fortnight over 16 weeks
• Night classes every Monday or Tuesday night over 16 weeks (6.00-9.15pm)
• Every second Saturday over 16 weeks

Assessment

For the successful completion of this qualification, participants must complete a series of workplace-based assessment tasks and a workplace project.  Assessment tasks can be completed and submitted within six months of completion of each workshop.  This program requires participants to undertake extensive self-directed learning in order to successfully complete the course.  Participants should allow a minimum of 5-6 hours per week to complete the self-directed learning and assessment tasks.

Please note that VECCI is currently awaiting approval for funding under the Skills for Victoria program for 2011.  Students who wish to apply for a Government funded place for courses commencing in 2011 are encouraged to complete a registration form and attach the relevant evidence and submit it to VECCI to tentatively secure a place.  Students will receive confirmation of their acceptance on a course in December 2010.

* Eligibility for a Government Subsidised Place

To be eligible for a Government subsidised place, applicants must be:

• An Australian citizen or holder of a permanent visa; or a holder  of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444); or East Timorese asylum seeker; or  a holder of a Temporary Protection Visa; AND
•  Aged under 20 years of age on 1 January in the year of course commencement; OR
• Aged 20 years or over on 1 January in the year the course commences, and you do not hold a prior qualification at the Diploma level or higher; OR 
• Aged 25 years or over on 1 January 2010, were retrenched on or after 1 January 2009, are registered with an Employment Services Provider, hold a Certificate of Separation from your employer, and do not hold a prior qualification at the Diploma level or higher.
