Employer Representative Training
One of VECCI’s Business Excellence courses
The Victorian Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act 2004 provides for organisations to appoint a member of the management team with responsibility for safety as their nominated employer representative. Not every manager is a nominated employer representative but in the absence of a nominated employer representative any manager may assume the responsibilities of one.
In reviews of the OHS legislation in 2004 and 2007, it was recommended that nominated employer representatives receive at least as much training as elected health and safety representatives. That translates to an additional day for management representatives beyong the 5 day initial OHS training course.
For managers of small or medium employers who cannot afford to attend or have not done the 5 day course, attendance at the additional day or a one day course will assist in understanding of their responsibilities.
Why we developed this program
Nominated employer representatives require a degree of knowledge of key areas of the OHS Act 2004, and the subsidiary regulations and codes of practice as applicable in that organisation. They require experience, knowledge and seniority in their organisation and have negotiation and consultation skills. VECCI are developing this program to ensure these nominated employer representatives will be equipped to fulfil their role.
Who should attend
Anyone needing to develop greater knowledge in dealing with OHS issues in the workplace is welcome to attend the 1-day Manager OHS training - although it is particularly designed for the manager who is juggling multiple roles in small or medium business. The "Additional 1 day program" is designed for those who have attended the 5 day Initial training program and who have a nominated OHS role in their organisation. Neither course is appropriate for supervisors or elected Health and Safety Representatives.
What will be covered
The legislative framework, including the regulations related to consultation, issue resolution and employee representation will be detailed and explored in case studies based upon real experiences.
This course can also be tailored to your exact requirements and can be delivered onsite at your premises. For more information call VECCI on 03 8662 5333.
