Why we developed this program

Psychosocial related claims to WorkSafe are on the increase. This course highlights the underlying factors that contribute to these issues and provides attendees with the knowledge to identify the factors and ways to eliminate or if this is not possible reduce the risk associated with psychosocial issues. The course also advises attendees in any changes in legislative requirements and the importance of having sound consultative processes in place.

Who should attend

Under Section 67(1) (b) of the OHS Act, 2004, a HSR has the right to attend a refresher course at least once in each year that he or she holds office, after completing the initial course of training, with a provider of their choice.

In addition, this course is applicable to line managers, supervisors, safety officers, health and safety committee members, human resource officers/managers and anyone with a responsibility for OHS.

• Explain the evolution of OHS legislation
• Explain OHS duties of Employers
• Explain OHS duties of Employees
• Outline OHS duties of others parties in the workplace
• Explain the roles and powers of HSR's
• Understand the employers obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2004 in relation to committees.
• Describe the purpose and scope of the a health and safety committee
• Identify the aspects that make a successful committee
• Understand the obligations of the employer under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2004 in relation to bullying, occupational violence and stress.
• Identify potential sources and signs of bullying and stress in the workplace and have an understanding of ways to reduce stress in the work environment.
