Australian School-based Apprenticeships

Students may be able to start an Australian Apprenticeships while at secondary school.

Australian School-based Apprenticeships enable students over 15 years of age to gain a nationally recognised qualification while completing the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

An Australian School-based Apprentice must complete a minimum of 13 hours per week combined employment and training averaged over three periods of four months in each year.

Benefits for students

  • You can finish Years 11 and 12 while you start your apprenticeship. You are paid a training wage or apprentice wage for the time you spend 'on-the-job' with your employer.
  • You are covered by a training contract, which links to an industrial award or agreement.
  • Contribute to your VCE or VCAL
