The Victoria Events Industry Council (VEIC) is a peak industry policy council of associations, corporate businesses and government agencies representing event organisers, venues, suppliers and service providers for Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Victoria – world-class events destination

Events are a key contributor to the Victorian economy. In 2006, Victoria attracted over 324,000 international visitors to major events. They stayed a total of 12.4 million nights, generating an estimated $3.3 million in expenditure across the State each day. Major events employ a workforce of 3,350 Victorians, representing $1.6 billion in assets under management. Business events, including exhibitions, meetings and conferences contribute $1.2 billion in economic activity and attract 5.4 million delegates and support 22,600 jobs each year.

Vision

Victoria will be recognised as the world's leading event destination, delivering excellence in event infrastructure, organisation and services and recognised as a major economic and social contributor to Victoria's community. Victoria's community will support investment in event infrastructure and resources to maintain Victoria's global competitive positioning.

Purpose
VEIC will represent the interests of Victoria's events industry to:

  • State Government and opposition parties
  • Federal Government and opposition parties
  • government departments and agencies
  • media
  • other State and National Industry Sector Associations
  • VECCI and Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI)
  • local Government.

VEIC will develop a policy agenda determined and reviewed annually and on a needs basis and raise the profile of the industry with the public, private sector and to the community generally.

Victorian Bushfire Business Investment Fund

The Victorian Bushfire Business Investment Fund is a $10 million Commonwealth and Victorian government stimulus package to create new jobs and attract business investment in communities affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires.  

Under the $10 million fund, new businesses can apply for grants of between $50,000 and $4 million with the grants also available to support the expansion of existing businesses.

The Victorian Bushfire Business Investment Fund is part of the $193 million Rebuilding Together state-wide plan for bushfire rebuilding and recovery.
