Economics & Research

The VECCI Economics and Research unit produces a number of leading publications that are available to members. Two of our flagship publications are the 'Visa-VECCI Survey of Business Trends and Prospects' and the 'VTIC – Survey of Tourism Performance and Outlook', both of these publications are produced quarterly.

Visa-VECCI Survey of Business Trends and Prospects

The Visa-VECCI Survey of Business Trends and Prospects is designed to monitor business performance and expectations with respect to:

  • Current and expected trends in national and state economic conditions; and
  • The recent performance of individual Victorian businesses and their expectations for the next 3 months.

VECCI's quarterly Business Trends & Prospects Survey canvasses a cross section of VECCI members and allows you to benchmark your business performance and expectations against the economy and industry-wide trends. A valuable aid to business planning, the survey covers trends in general business conditions, sales revenue, selling prices, wages growth, exports, employment, profits and investment.

The latest survey shows that trading conditions for Victorian business were mixed during the December quarter 2006. General business conditions and sales levels improved during the quarter, while selling prices remained stable amid strong competition and price discounting in some sectors of the economy. Wage growth was widespread during the quarter, following the increase in the minimum wage and continuing upward pressure on wages of skilled employees. This affected profitibility, which declined over the quarter.   Click here for further information.
