On Labour Day the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Tony Abbott MP proposed a paid parental leave scheme, which will be funded by an imposed levy on businesses paying more than $5 million in tax per year. The proposed scheme has sparked major debate on whether a new tax on Australian business is a just method to fund social policy. VECCI welcomes contribution to the debate on this issue and will monitor the progress of the Government’s scheme currently before parliament, as well as the Opposition’s alternative scheme in the lead up to the election.
