Thirty improvement notices issued on return-to-work in the first month

WorkSafe return-to-work inspectors have issued 30 improvement notices in the first month since being given the power to issue notices.

The majority of the notices served related to the employers’ duty to provide workers with information regarding duties applying to employers and workers and return-to-work.

Notices were also issued to employers who had failed to commence consulting with an injured worker about planning a return-to-work. While employers who are deemed to be compliant with the pre-July duties will be given until April 2011 to comply with the new laws, employers who have no systems in place will receive notices requiring compliance with the new laws.

VECCI has provided employers who have attended our two hour briefings on the new return-to-work laws with over 30 pages of templates, draft policies and standard letters to adapt for use in their work place.

The next VECCI briefing is on 6 September. It is your opportunity to understand the new laws, how they differ and to get practical assistance on compliance. Registrations can be made by calling 03 8662 5333 or under briefings on the VECCI website.

If you would like further information on the above information or the sessions, contact John Smith on 03 8662 5348 or at jsmith@vecci.org.au.
