Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence

2009 Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence presented by HMAA

A Message from the Chair...

Welcome to the 12th annual Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence presented by the HMAA.

We have made some exciting changes to the awards process this year with a change in date, structure and format of the event with a more simplified submissions process and more industry-specific questions.

One of the most significant changes we've made is to recognise the need to expand our 2 most dominant categories (standard accommodation and deluxe accommodation) to include regional participants. Therefore for 2009, we will award 2 winners in the 'standard accommodation' category and 2 winners in the 'deluxe accommodation' category: 1 regional and 1 metropolitan. We hope this new simplified and more encompassing process will give more properties the opportunity to participate and reinforce the professionalism of the industry.

A new component to the judging system was introduced last year with the 'secret shopper programme'. The program was a great success, allowing for a true visitor experience. This year the program will make up for the bulk of the judging. However, in today's economic downturn we recognise the need to support accommodation operators. Therefore, while we have decided to keep this integral part of the awards, we have modified it slightly to make the process simpler for everyone. Participants in the awards will have an opportunity to nominate several off-peak dates over the period of 2 months to make it more cost-effective for operators while still allowing for the mystery shopper to have a true visitor's experience.

The Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence celebrates the achievements and successes of all accommodation types including hotels, motels, serviced apartments, B&Bs, backpackers and caravan parks, highlighting the diversity of our industry.

We'd like to encourage all members and non-members to participate in this peer-to-peer event and challenge you to showcase your property, demonstrate the quality of your products, nominate staff, recognise and be recognised for achievements of excellence.

The Victorian Accommodation Awards for Excellence is your opportunity to show industry peers what is so special, outstanding and unique abut your property, staff and policies.

Good luck!

Sincerely
Steve Finlayson - signature
