About HMAA

Nationally, the Hotel, Motel & Accommodation Association (HMAA), is recognised as the peak body for the accommodation sector, representing establishments ranging from 5-star hotels and motels through to B&Bs and serviced apartments with a total membership base of  2,000 accommodation members across Australia.

HMAA (Victoria branch) is a specialist alliance working solely for employers in the accommodation industry and is the voice of the industry in Victoria. The Alliance represents hotels, motels, motor inns, motor lodges, apartments, resorts, time-share, private hotels backpackers, holiday farms and B&B establishments, regardless of property size.

HMAA is a dynamic organisation whose sole aim is to protect and advance the interests of its accommodation members at local, state and federal government levels as well as on issues relating to the operational needs of the accommodation industry.

HMAA in Victoria operates within the Tourism and Events Industry Unit of the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) – Australia's largest and most influential chamber of commerce and Victoria's peak employer group servicing more than 25,000 businesses per annum. VECCI was started by the business community to represent and support business and is an independent, not-for-profit, non-government body.

VECCI is the power behind the HMAA in Victoria, successfully managing all operations of the Alliance – a true partner to the tourism industry. VECCI supports some 900 tourism businesses in Victoria.

Object

HMAA's objective is to provide a professional service to the industry in Victoria and encourage excellence in service among the providers of all types of accommodation, in the interests of members' prosperity and growth.

Goals

  • To promote and increase the benefits of membership
  • To ensure the industry has a strong and united voice to represent its interests in areas such as industrial relations, accommodation taxes etc
  • To work with all levels of government for the benefit of members
  • To nurture and develop HMAA regions to establish a local networking system that addresses regional accommodation operators needs
  • To build the image and reputation of the association
  • To work with other hospitality industry bodies for the benefit of members
  • To work with suppliers of products and services to the accommodation industry, and
  • To obtain discounted prices for products and services for members.

2009 Victorian Accommodation Forum – 'No Vacancy – How to fill your beds in the midst of the financial crisis'

The annual Victorian Accommodation Forum was a success yesterday, with presenters imparting their expertise on topics such as; the importance of great customer service, the value of staff education and training, how to improve your facilities on a budget and how to successfully market your business online.

We would like to thank MC Steve Finlayson, Chair of the HMAA Board and all of our fantastic presenters for volunteering their time to provide invaluable information to our industry members.
