Events Industry- United Voice
The Victoria Events Industry Council (VEIC) was established in December 2006 to provide leadership and a united voice for the $1.2 billion Event Industry. VEIC is a peak industry policy council of associations, corporate businesses and government agencies representing event organisers, venues, suppliers and service providers for Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Events are a key contributor to the Victorian economy. In 2006, Victoria attracted over 324,000 international visitors to major events, who stayed a total of 12.4 million nights generating an estimated $3.3million in expenditure across the State each day. Major events also employ a workforce of 3,350 Victorians, representing $1.6 billion in assets under management. Business events, including exhibitions, meetings and conferences contribute $1.2 billion in economic activity and attract 5.4 million delegates and support 22,600 jobs each year

Hoteliers and Events Luncheon

Hosted by VEIC CEO, Wayne Kayler-Thomson, this was an exclusive event with a unique opportunity for a small number of guests to take part in an open discussion with representatives from the Hotel, Accommodation and Events sectors.

Discussions focused on opportunities and challenges for both the accommodation and events industries.


VISION
Victoria will be recognised as the world's leading event destination, delivering excellence in event infrastructure, organisation and services and recognised as a major economic and social contributor to Victoria's community.
Victoria's community will support investment in event infrastructure and resources to maintain Victoria's global competitive positioning.

PURPOSE
VEIC will represent the interests of Victoria's events industry to
  • State Government and opposition parties.
  • Federal Government and opposition parties.
  • Government Departments and Agencies.
  • Media.
  • Other State and National Industry Sector Associations.
  • VECCI and Australian Chamber ofCommerce and Industry (ACCI).
  • Local Government.

VEIC will develop a Policy Agenda determined and reviewed annually and on a needs basis and raise the profile of the industry with the public, private sector and to the community generally.
