The 'Business Talking' kits are part of a 'Business to Business' recruitment pilot to increase employer participation in student Work Placements and Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the VCE. An important part of these programs is where students demonstrate their skills and knowledge in the workplace.
The employers involved in the development of the Business Talking resources ranged from those with no experience of Work Placement students at their business to those with extensive experience. Their reasons for supporting this initiative of the Department of Education & Training (DE&T) and the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) include business recruitment opportunities, increasing the skill base of their industry, and helping young people gain skills that make them more readily employable.
The resources contain:
- 'a guide for business on Student Work Placements' (hard copies available on request)
- an induction guide
- a communications proforma for employees
- an example industry-specific task plan
- a blank task plan
- supervisor feedback proforma for allocated student tasks
- why businesses are involved.
