HMAA Chair meets with new Federal Tourism Minister, Fran Bailey
11/18/2004 10:08:09 PM

Representatives of the peak body for Victoria’s accommodation providers, the Hotel, Motel and Accommodation Association of Victoria (HMAAV), have met (17/11) with the new Federal Minister for Small Business and Tourism, Fran Bailey.

Issues discussed at the meeting included current business conditions and prospects, as well as key priorities for the accommodation sector into 2005 and beyond, such as the implementation of the Tourism White Paper.

HMAA Chairperson, Harry Korpetutuncu also took the opportunity to welcome the appointment of Fran Bailey to her new position.

"The new Minister is an experienced Member of Parliament representing a Victorian regional electorate heavily reliant on tourism", says Mr Korpetutuncu.

"The Minister also has a strong track record in standing up for the interests of her constituents, and no doubt she will bring the same application to her new role.

"We also congratulate the outgoing Minister, Joe Hockey, for his work as a tireless advocate within Government for the tourism industry.

"The accommodation sector faces unique challenges in a globally competitive market and, as such, the HMAAV looks forward to working with Minister Bailey in continuing to foster a favourable investment climate for accommodation providers", says Mr Korpetutuncu.
