VECCI welcomes new sports stadium
11/19/2004 5:52:15 AM

VECCI has welcomed the announcement of a new $100 million sports stadium for Melbourne.

The Victorian Government’s announcement indicates that the stadium will be suitable for rugby union, rugby league and soccer, and will underpin Melbourne’s bid for a new Super 14 rugby union team.

"A new sports stadium in the Olympic Park precinct will build on our existing world-class sporting infrastructure and enhance Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s sporting capital", says VECCI Chief Executive Officer, Mr Neil Coulson.

"It will also further our reputation as Australia’s events capital and underpin our attempts to attract sports tourism.

"A modern and comfortable sports stadium will also improve the attractiveness of rugby codes and soccer to Victorian-based businesses - as such, these codes will be able to take full advantage of the business hospitality and sponsorship market", says Mr Coulson.
