VECCI Welcomes Prime Minister
10/12/2004 7:26:25 AM

The Prime Minister reinforced the Federal Coalition's commitment to the principle of choice in workplace relations, education and health during a wide-ranging speech at VECCI.

Mr Howard was guest of honour at a special luncheon attended by more than 100 VECCI members and corporate guests. Referring to a topic high on VECCI's priority list, he stressed the importance of skills development and the fact that apprenticeships and trade qualifications should be seen as equal to university qualifications.

Mr Howard thanked VECCI for welcoming him to Melbourne and said that he had long respected VECCI as an employer advocate and source of business advice. In welcoming the Prime Minister, VECCI President, Richard Holyman, said his presence at VECCI signified the value Mr Howard placed on a growing business sector and economy. By the same token, the presence of so many of Victoria's corporate leaders symbolised the appreciation of the good work of Mr Howard during his term as Prime Minister and his wider parliamentary career.

It was also a sign that Victorian business people were eager to hear the Prime Minister's plans for business and the economy if he won a historic fourth term as leader.

Mr Holyman said VECCI had sent very clear messages to both political parties on the key business priorities for the next Federal Government.
