The re-election of Lord Mayor John So is a positive development for Melbourne, says VECCI.

"Melbourne City Council has improved its performance under the mayoralty of John So, not only operationally, but in terms of Melbourne's profile", says VECCI Chief Executive Officer, Mr Neil Coulson.

"This has been characterised by support for major events and infrastructure, such as the new Convention Centre, and recognition of the importance of international visitors and delegations.

"In doing this, John So has reinforced the importance and value of the role of Lord Mayor.

"The re-election of John So will allow the Council to build on this work - this is reinforced by the system of direct election of the Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor, which provides a strong mandate to those elected.

"VECCI looks forward to working with the Lord Mayor, Deputy Lord Mayor and Councillors in future years", says Mr Coulson.
