Victorian Economic Statement to trigger tourism growth
4/20/2004 7:35:05 AM

The Victorian Economic Statement will trigger tourism growth over the medium term, says VTIC.

"The decision to establish a world-class, high capacity Plenary Hall in Melbourne will underpin the important business tourism and conference market, an area where we have slipped badly behind our regional competitors in recent years", says VTIC Chairman, John Button.

"The proposed $7.7 million tourism campaign aimed at luring visitors to Victoria's cultural attractions will also play to Victoria's strengths as Australia's cultural capital.

"These measures are timely and will position Victoria to take better advantage of the fast-approaching Commonwealth Games", says Mr Button.

Background - what is VTIC

The Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) is the peak policy council for the Victorian tourism industry. The Hon. John Button chairs the Council, which represents key industry associations and operators, providing one united industry voice with a special focus on small operators.
