Wage Case Decision - some recognition of Victorian employers
6/8/2005 1:47:53 AM

Today’s Australian Industrial Relations Commission Wage Case decision, raising the basic wage by $17 to $484.40 per week, is very much a mixed bag, says VECCI.

"It does at least provide some recognition of the particular circumstances confronting Victorian employers", says VECCI General Manager - Workplace Relations, Mr David Gregory.

"The Commission has sensibly rejected the union claims for an increase of $26 per week.

"However, the increase awarded will add costs for many Victorian employers already having to cope with the extension of common rule award coverage in Victoria, new OHS laws which come into force on 1st July, and pending new long service leave entitlements for Victorian employees.

"However, the Commission has at least acknowledged some of those particular circumstances by deferring the outcome until at least August for those Victorian employers caught up in the impact of the common rule changes," says Mr Gregory.
