VECCI to hold counselling, discipline and termination briefing in Bairnsdale
4/20/2006 1:02:25 AM
There is an urgent need for all employers to be familiar with workplace relations legislation requirements, particularly with regard to effectively and successfully managing the counselling, discipline & termination process.

"Poor employee counselling, whether for unsatisfactory work performance or unacceptable behaviour, can be costly, particularly if it results in termination of employment and possibly unfair dismissal", says VECCI General Manager - Workplace Relations, Mr David Gregory.

"As such, a counselling, discipline & termination briefing will be held in Bairnsdale on Thursday 27 April 2006.

During this 3-hour briefing, Giuseppe Amoroso, VECCI Principal Workplace Relations Advisor, will guide participants through an overview of:
  • The counselling and discipline process and the requirements of the Work Choices Act 2005
  • Issuing and documenting warnings
  • The review process
  • The termination process
  • The differences between termination with and without notice, instant dismissal and redundancy
  • Defining unfair dismissal - Unjust? Unfair? Unreasonable?
  • Identifying employees eligible to lodge alleged unfair dismissal claims

"This briefing is specifically designed for regional employers - with so many changes occurring, it is crucial that East Gippsland employers attend", says Mr Gregory.
