VECCI welcomes commitment to major projects
2/20/2006 10:09:24 PM

VECCI today welcomed the State Opposition policy announcement on infrastructure and major projects, and will be studying the detailed proposals.

"With an extra million people expected to live in Melbourne by 2030, it is imperative that our major political parties show vision in terms of the infrastructure required to accommodate the needs of our larger population", says VECCI Chief Executive Officer, Mr Neil Coulson.

"The intensifying global pressures being placed on business means it is more important than ever to get the right infrastructure in place that enhances Victoria’s competitive economic and industry strengths.

"At its recent Victoria Summit, held in November last year, VECCI advocated six key major projects for the future, including channel deepening in Port Phillip Bay, the linking of the East-West growth corridors, triplication of the Dandenong rail line and the Eastern Recycled Water Project.

"A debate is needed about the big projects required to drive Victoria's competitive future - VECCI looks forward to all major political parties outlining their vision ahead of the November 2006 State Election", says Mr Coulson.
