Federal Budget focus on education and tax relief a positive
Tonight’s Budget features both tax relief and spending initiatives, but remains responsible with a surplus and some positive measures that will benefit business, says VECCI.
“Incentives to improve human capital through education and training and tax relief will have a positive impact on the economy and business”, says VECCI Chief Executive Officer, Neil Coulson.
“The adjustment to tax thresholds, including the increase in the top marginal tax threshold to $180,000, is a step towards reducing disincentives to work harder and the `brain drain’.
“Measures to boost literacy and numeracy will boost the employability of school leavers, and incentives for apprentices in areas of skill shortage are also welcomed.
The $22.3 billion worth of funding for Auslink and other road and rail projects is also of benefit, although we hope Victoria will receive its appropriate share.
"The expected cash surplus of $10.6 billion for 2007/08 will underpin continuing business confidence and put downward pressure on interest rates”, says Mr Coulson. |
