Today’s State Budget provides affordable business cost relief to keep Victoria competitive with other States.
“The ten percent cut in WorkCover premiums will help the overwhelming majority of businesses, particularly those affected by the continuing drought, a relatively high Australian dollar and recent interest rate rises”, says VECCI Chief Executive Officer Neil Coulson.
“The reductions in land tax will help businesses squeezed by rises in the value of their properties.
“The WorkCover premium cuts are the fourth consecutive reduction and cement Victoria’s position as having the second-most competitive workers’ compensation premium rate behind Queensland.
“Measures to assist business cut water and energy use are also welcome. The CarbonDown Program is an attempt to get on the front foot and tackle carbon emissions in recognition of the fact that Victoria’s economy has a strong manufacturing profile.
“It will be a partnership between the Victorian Government, as represented by the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development and Sustainability Victoria, and VECCI, aimed at getting on with the job of helping business reduce carbon emissions while improving productivity and profitability.
“The Budget builds on the good work of previous Budgets and will help make Victoria an even more attractive place to live, work and invest”, says Mr Coulson. |
