VECCI Board confirms Wayne Kayler-Thomson as new CEO
8/27/2007 6:45:38 AM

The Board of the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry has confirmed the appointment of Mr Wayne Kayler-Thomson as CEO effective immediately.

Mr Kayler-Thomson has been acting in the role following the resignation last month of Neil Coulson.

"Wayne has had extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, and has played a key role in building Victoria’s tourism industry into a multi-billion dollar sector, including a decade as a senior executive and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Victoria", says VECCI President Mr Richard Holyman.

"Wayne leads a strong management team that will build on the initiatives that Neil Coulson introduced, and will ensure there is continuity in the business activities of VECCI."

"I consider it an honour and a privilege to be appointed by the Board as CEO, and will ensure that VECCI continues to provide effective advocacy and representation and the highest quality service to our members, customers, clients and other stakeholders", says VECCI CEO Mr Wayne Kayler-Thomson.

"We will continue to advocate member interests without fear or favour. These include:

  • Advocating a more flexible labour market to reflect the demands domestic and international consumers now place on business, as part of the 20-year workplace reform process advocated by the Hawke, Keating and Howard Governments.
  • Reducing the cost of doing business in Victoria, with a focus on business taxes and charges, including WorkCover premiums.

  • Saving business valuable time by cutting red tape and regulation.

  • Supporting key urgent Victorian infrastructure projects, such as the proposed Port Phillip Bay channel deepening project.

  • Driving a trade and industry policy that supports Victorian business in taking on competition at home and abroad.

  • Promoting resource efficiency among business, large and small, for the benefit of both the environment and the business bottom line.

  • Supporting innovation by rolling out a Business Excellence program to our member, customer and client base promoting Corporate Social Responsibility.

"One of my core beliefs is that in a modern society we are all increasingly interdependent and that, in this context, business is an integral part of the community.

"The economy, the environment and the community are not separate, mutually exclusive, mutually antagonistic spheres - it is possible to have win-wins and even superior outcomes by paying due regard to all three.

"I would like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution that Neil Coulson has made during his employment at VECCI and particularly during his six years as Chief Executive Officer.

"Neil has always had as his foremost consideration the interests of VECCI members and the achievements of VECCI during this period are a testament to his commitment and success – I will strive to continue this", says Mr Kayler-Thomson.
