The Tourism and Events Industry Strategy 2016 launched today is the first of its kind in Australia.
The strategy, developed through extensive consultation with the industry, complements and supports the Victorian Government’s 10 year Tourism and Events Industry Strategy.
“The strategy has been developed by the tourism and events industry for the tourism and events industry”, says VTIC Chairman Jeremy Johnson.
“The strategy demonstrates the commitment of Victoria’s tourism industry to further sustainable growth and development through a focus on strategic, state-wide issues.
“It presents a fresh approach to developing and maintaining positive partnerships between the Government and industry and within the tourism industry itself.
The aim of the strategy is that by 2016 Victoria’s tourism industry will be recognised for its sustainable practices, contribute $18 billion to the State and employ 225,000 Victorians, up from $11 billion and 159,000 now.
The key areas of focus for the strategy include:
- growth in sustainable and nature-based tourism
- improved aviation access and transport networks
- attraction and retention of investment and events
“The tourism and events industry plays a significant role in the Victorian economy and this strategy demonstrates the industry’s commitment to ensuring that it can continue to grow and prosper”, says Mr Johnson. |
