Passing of John Button
4/11/2008 8:29:09 AM

It is with sadness and regret that we note the passing of John Button.

VTIC Chief Executive Officer Wayne Kayler-Thomson said that as well as being known as a reformist Labor Industry Minister, Mr Button was the inaugural Chairman of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC).

"John took the reins at a difficult time – Ansett had just collapsed, the September 11 attacks had just occurred and the industry was in crisis", says Mr Kayler-Thomson.

"VTIC had been newly formed to replace the defunct Tourism Council Australia in Victoria.

"John will be remembered for giving the sector a timely injection of confidence and helping it get back on its feet, discharging his responsibilities with his inimitable brand of knowledge, influence, straight talking, and good humour.

"He will be sorely missed by all and we pass on our condolences to his family at this difficult time", says Mr Kayler-Thomson.

Background - what is VTIC

The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) is the peak policy council for the Victorian tourism industry, which represents key industry associations, operators and government agencies, providing one united industry voice.
