Since 1966, VECCI has serviced the needs of local businesses in Geelong and the South West of the State. One of Australia's most progressive business organisations, VECCI has more than 150 years experience and vast professional resources.
VECCI has always placed great emphasis on including local members on regional policy committees. The inaugural meeting of the Geelong Regional Committee was held on March 17 1983, and the South West Regional Committee was inaugurated on February 12, 1987.
VECCI has grown over the years to represent a broad range of industries, with membership in the Geelong/South West region growing from just under 400 in 1986, to more than 800 at present.
Key industries include manufacturing, retail trade, agriculture, fishing, forestry, and health and community services. Geelong is a major hub for heavy industry and transport, as well as tourism. Towns such as Colac and Warrnambool specialise in food manufacture, particularly dairy products.
